Frequently asked questions
A graduate certificate is a recognised postgraduate qualification on the Australian Qualifications Framework that sits above a bachelor’s degree and provides specialised knowledge in a focused field. Many professionals pursue graduate certificates to enhance their skills, stay current with industry practices, or transition into leadership or specialist roles without committing up-front to a full master’s degree. These credentials can demonstrate up‑to‑date expertise to employers and serve as a formally recognised stepping‑stone towards further postgraduate study such as graduate diplomas or Master’s degrees.
The UC Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership is designed for current education professionals seeking leadership skills specific to educational settings. It helps build credibility, strategic thinking, and people‑leadership skills that are valued in school and system leadership roles.
Graduate certificate fees vary by university, but many students may be able to significantly reduce their costs through a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP). With a CSP, the Australian Government subsidises part of your tuition fees, meaning you pay a lower student contribution - and you may be able to defer this amount through an Australian Government HELP loan if you’re eligible.
At the University of Canberra, eligible students in the Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership may access a CSP, substantially reducing the overall cost of study. Students who are not eligible for a CSP, or who choose a full-fee place, should expect higher out-of-pocket costs.
For those studying on a full-fee basis, the Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership is priced at approximately $2,956.25 per unit, with the total cost typically around $11,825 for the full four-unit program (based on 2026 indicative fees). FEE-HELP may be available to eligible students. Fees are subject to annual review by the University and may increase.
A graduate certificate in education is a postgraduate qualification designed for professionals working in or entering the education sector. It focuses on contemporary educational theories, leadership practices, policy frameworks, or specialised pedagogical skills. These programs are shorter than master’s degrees but develop targeted expertise that can be applied directly in educational settings.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership at the University of Canberra develops leadership, management, and organisational skills tailored to school and educational environments, helping educators support and lead teams effectively.
A graduate certificate can strengthen your professional profile by demonstrating postgraduate‑level knowledge and specialised skills. For many employers, it signals commitment to ongoing learning and can support promotion or transition into roles requiring advanced understanding. While it does not guarantee a job, it can enhance competitiveness, especially when combined with relevant experience.
The UC Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership is designed to enhance leadership credibility for educators and can support moves into roles such as curriculum coordinator, instructional leader or middle/senior leadership positions in schools or education systems.
